Previewing the 2012 XC Season Ten Runners at a Time

30 Courtney  Mattson   Calvert 11 2011-12 Results Mattson has become the leading female runner in the SMAC conference and her 8th place finish in xc states last season confirms that for the incoming junior. Her ability to run strong in the hills on the flat ground of southern MD gives her a boost at invitationals and states.  On the track she still has some work to do in order to compete with the best.
29 Morgana D'Ottavi   Montgomery Blair 11 2011-12 Results Morgana has been one of the leading runners in MoCo since she entered as a freshman. Running 13th last year in the state meet on top of a 3rd at Bull Run and 8th in the MoCo Champs giving her ability to run the distance credibility considering she primarily runs the 800 in track.  Always enjoys being at the races and always has a smile on her face.
28 Erin Dougherty   Broadneck 10 2011-12 Results After a 63rd at Bull Run, the freshman kicked it into high gear with top ten finishes at counties and regionals and an 11th at the state meet. Did not run track so will need to put in a summer of running to move up.
27 Diana Curtis   Bohemia Manor 12 2011-12 Results Curtis was 2nd at regionals and 3rd at states last season, but will not have the deep team behind her this year. She will need to run against tougher comp during season to move up.
26 Ellie Smith   Broadneck 12 2011-12 Results Ellie is being expected to improve on last year's xc season and lead her team to a state championship. With 5:20 1600 speed she should be able to improve on her finish at last year's states and also her 12:05 time for the 3200 in track.
25 Kelly Winklbauer VIDEO INTERVIEW Urbana 10 2011-12 Results Another outstanding freshman from last year's team, Winklbauer was ninth at the state meet and was under 12:00 for the 3200.  With her other two teammates, Urbana has a real shot at the state title and more. Kelly will need to run closer to her other two teammates this season.  But with a summer of training that shouldn not be a problem.
24 Samantha Bingaman   South Carroll 12 2011-12 Results Samantha only participated in cross country last year, but was tenth in the state meet and that was her lowest placing all season.  She will be a contender for the county crown this fall.
23 Grace Mc Donald   Sherwood 11 2011-12 Results After a third place finish in regionals, Grace faltered a little bit at states finishing 18th.  Primarily an 800 runner in track she got down to a 2:25 at regionals, but still is only going into her junior year.  Being in MoCo she will have plenty of opportunity to hone her skills this fall.
22 Naomi Sheppard VIDEO INTERVIEW Northwest 11 2011-12 Results Naomi is now the leader of the mighty Northwest team which last year was filled with some of the best runners in the state, but now with graduation and transfers, Naomi finds herself as the teams number one. With a tenth place finish at states and a new coach, she should be able to improve that this year.
21 Sarah Rinehart VIDEO INTERVIEW Liberty 10 2011-12 Results A strong finisher in track, Rinehart always came from far back to pass runners in the final 200. A strong 2:22 in the 800 and good 1600 times needs to translate to xc for her to improve on her 7th place finish at states
