Bethesda 10 2011-12 Results The freshman who finished 8th at states xc is one of a large continengent of freshman at BCC who will lead the team this year.  combine that with a fifth at counties and a 4th at regionals and you wonder why she didn't compete in track and field.  Maybe with another outstanding fall, she'll make the switch over to the oval.
19 Clare Severe
Walt Whitman 10 2011-12 Results Clare did not take part in xc last season, but was more than a hit in track.  Coming out of nowhere, the freshman ran a 5:07 at regionals and a couple of 2:19's in the 800. Hopefully for Coach Hays she will be running xc this year and can improve on those impressive times in the spring.
18 Emily Ward
North Hagerstown 11 2011-12 Results Consistently one of the better runners in Washington County, Ward hope to ride her fourth place finish at states into a state championship this year. She will have competition, but she has shown she can run the hills better than most. Plus with 5:17 1600 speed she can use that to stay with the leaders from the start.
17 Rachel Yep VIDEO INTERVIEW Mt. Hebron 12 2011-12 Results All last year Rachel was only out of the top 10 once and that was at Bull Run.  Admittedly, she does not enjoy hill running very much considering her height and thin stature.  She will always be out in the front at the start of any race, many times taking the lead and pushing the pace.  She will need to work on the back half of the race in order for her to be in the lead at the finish.
16 Chelsie Pennello VIDEO INTERVIEW Poolesville 11 2011-12 Results Pennello is a natural half miler who is working her way up the distance totem pole. Last year as a freshman she ran a number of low 2:20 clockings and this year was down to 5:12 in the 1600.  When most people thought she would stay there at those distances, she moved up to the 3200 where she placed fifth in the 3200.  All this spells good things for her in XC. After finishing fourth last year she can only get better.
15 Natalie Eastwood VIDEO INTERVIEW Westminster 12 2011-12 Results Eastwood came on strong throughout the 2011-12 school year. Starting well in xc, she had a bad race at states, but had a strong outdoor track season.  Each race she kept picking people off as the race progressed until she finished in an all out sprint. Despite her diminutive stature she will be a force to be dealt with this season.
14 Sarah Askine VIDEO INTERVIEW Urbana 12 2011-12 Results A third place finish in the state meet was largely unnoticed by most due to her other teammate winning during the season, but Askine has the strength to be one of the better xc runners in the state. A very powerful upper and lower torso allows her to drive up the hills easier than other girls in the race. She did not run indoor track, but came back in outdoor getting down to a 5:21 at the state meet.
13 Caroline Beakes
Bethesda 10 2011-12 Results If she runs xc, Beakes has untapped potential. She improved through indoor and outdoor to a 5:16 and 11:20 times at outdoor states. Could compete for county title.
12 Jordan Dodson VIDEO INTERVIEW Perryville 11 2011-12 Results For a girl who hates racing because she gets too nervous, Jordan Dodson is doing one heck of a good job. Another natural 800 runner, she has developed into an excellent distance runner.  She has broken 60 in the 400 and also was the state champion in xc last year in 1A.  This spring she ran a 5:13 1600 and 2:18 800 despite not running a lot of invitationals outside of the UCBAC.  She said she had a good summer of training so a repeat of the state championship is in the cards.
11 Sarah Zielinski
Boonsboro 12 2011-12 Results Sarah could be a much better runner if she ran against competition during the season. Unfortunately, the only time she usually sees people near here is at the state meet. She has a few 5:20 1600's and a 11:26 best last year in the 3200. Dodson will once again be her nemesis at the state meet and getting to some big meets in MoCo or central Maryland will help her get the competition she needs.
