Wegner, Mansbach, Crilly and Good Counsel Start Season Out StrongThe cross country season started last evening in its usual fashion with the first scrimmage at Sandy Springs Friends School in Montgomery County. The meet which was smaller than usual featured a battle between the newly unattached Michael Wegner and Good Counsel's Colin Crilly. Hannah Mansbach from Glenelg Country School also showed why she is going to be one of the state's top runners this year. Wegner who has decided not to run for Loyola this season is searching for races that will let him run. "I'm not really sure where I'll be running", said Wegner, "but I'm in good shape and want to see where I am right now." After Wegner and Crilly powered through a 4:57 first mile run on trails, Wegner began to pull away just before the two mile point which was hit in 10:57. Wegner went on to an easy 17 second win over Crilly in 16:52. Good Counsel with a strong team coming into this season took five of the top ten spots. Mansbach who pass the mile in 5:50 used the guys in the race to pace herself to an early sub 20:00 clocking, winning in 19:46.
