Previewing the 2012 XC Season Ten Runners at a Time
| 10 |
Chase Weaverling |
VIDEO INTERVIEW |
Poolesville |
11 |
Results 2011-12 |
A 4th at XC states showed what he is capable of, but outdoor put him on the radar. Three 9:30ish 3200's makes him the one of the favorites for the state xc title this year. |

Jonathan Luckin |
VIDEO INTERVIEW |
Hereford |
12 |
Results 2011-12 |
Jon is the leader of this powerful Hereford squad. Fifth at the state meet and second at counties, Jon found out he had speed in outdoor track. Never running faster than a 2:05 800, he anchored the 3200 relay at states in 1:58. He also had a 4:20 mile at Maverick Invite. Jon led his team in summer workouts, so he comes into the season prepared. |

Josh Trzeciak |
VIDEO INTERVIEW |
Wootton |
12 |
Results 2011-12 |
Josh went to another level in outdoor track with a 4:18 and a 1:54 and able to run them with big negative splits. His cross country season last year was so-so, but he also ran against some of the toughest competition in the state. If his improvement continues and he takes xc seriously, he can challenge for the top spot in 4A. There is a big difference between 1 and 3 miles and he will have to make that committment to excel at the longer distance. |

David Dorsey |
VIDEO INTERVIEW |
Catoctin |
11 |
Results 2011-12 |
David runs many very tough races early in the season which takes the stuffing out of him before the season even gets going. The western maryland courses such as the Mountain Run are not easy courses and very competitive. If his races are chosen wisely this fall, he should be able to improve on last year's eighth place finish. |

Sam Pershall |
VIDEO INTERVIEW |
Severna Park |
12 |
Results 2011-12 |
Sam is the leader of the Severna Park crew and although he had a rough day at states, his battles with Bullen have been fascinating. The Anne Arundel championships last fall went down to the final stretch. A solid track runner who specializes in the 1600, Pershall has a habit of going out very fast and trying to hold on. This year with all the top runners in 4A, that strategy might need to change. |

Hale Bullen |
VIDEO INTERVIEW |
Annapolis |
12 |
Results 2011-12 |
Harry (Hale) Bullen had a great outdoor season with a 4:21 and 9:21 last season. With a goal of a sub 9:00 3200 this season and a summer of high mileage he is on his way to that goal. In xc, a second at states in 4A means he will be in the mix with a few others to claim the top spot. |

David Fitzgerald |
VIDEO INTERVIEW |
Winston Churchill |
10 |
Results 2011-12 |
Fitzgerald was the top frosh in MoCo last year and had a good season, running 17:10 at the state meet for 11th. A couple of sub 4:30 miles in outdoor after suffering through injuries during indoor was a good sign that xc was not just a flash in the pan. A body type reminiscent of Chris Moen and Will Conway, Fitzgerald will make big strides forward this fall.

Patrick Duboyce |
VIDEO INTERVIEW |
Linganore |
12 |
Results 2011-12 |
Duboyce had Braden Bruning the first three years to train off of, but this year he is the leader of not only the team, but his county, region and possibly state. He will be counted on to lead the pace in practices, races and leadership on his team. With a third at states last year in 16:32, the path to being a state champion is right in front of him. A 4:20 and 9:24 last season puts him in the running for #1 in the entire state this season. |
| 2 |
Michael Wegner |
VIDEO INTERVIEW |
Unattached |
10 |
Results 2011-12 |
Wegner came into high school with a 15:16 5K to his credit and big things were expected of him. He ran well above what normal freshman will do, but the constant racing took a lot out of him, so by the end of outdoor season he was running with dead legs. This year his family has decided to have him run unattached and regroup. He has plenty of road races to run, but finding xc races to run during the season will be an issue. His goal this season is Nike regionals and finals. He looked good in his opening race last Wednesday. |

Vince Ciattei |
VIDEO INTERVIEW |
Perry Hall |
12 |
Results 2011-12 |
The only thing keeping the senior from keeping this position is Baltimore County. If he is allowed to run at quality invites during season, he should run away with all titles. A smart runner and strong finisher, his 4:15 and 9:20 clockings at end of outdoor opened up a lot of eyes. |
