Oneda Wins Her First Collegiate Race

Hannah Oneda continued her winning ways coming away with her first college win in her first college race at Oregon Ridge on Friday afternoon.

Oneda now running for Johns Hopkins University won going away on the tough and newly designed 5K course at the Hunt Valley location. What made Oneda's win and time even more surprising was that she has never run at this course before and the heat at race time was 95 degrees.

The freshman, who ran at Winters Mill, has had to get accustomed to college training.

"Coach Van Allen keeps telling me to back off at practice", said Oneda, "I'm so used to going hard in all my runs."

Van Allen, in a conversation earlier in the week, said that college is different than high school and that she will adapt.

Hopkins took the first four spots before Katherine Currier of Goucher broke the Blue Jay shutout.

In the men's race, Hopkins took the first 17 spots with Max Robinson winning in 15:50.6.  Andrew Ceruzzi (Albert Einstein), 4th in  16:33 and Nathan Dordai (Dulaney) 10th in 16:45 were two Maryland athletes in the top ten for Hopkins.
