Boonsboro Sweeps Both Team Titles

1A Girls

"Words can't describe how I feel. It's great to have the individual trophy and the team trophy."

Another day at the office for Boonsboro Senior Sarah Zielinski. After a relaxed first mile of 6:26, Zielinski, Abby Culp of Manchester Valley, and Alexis DeVault of Mountain Ridge separated themselves from the rest of the field.

But it was not long before the Boonsboro harrier had amassed a convincing lead.

"In Western Maryland, we're used to hills," she remarked. "So this course doesn't come as too much of a shock to the body."

Conquering the last hill with a Dip's-length lead on Culp, Zielinski hit the tape in 19:48, 31 seconds ahead of Abby Culp (20:19).

"I finished under 20:00 for the first time today so I'm very pleased with that," she added.

Teammates Kourtney Cunningham, Samantha Smith, and Ella Hawkins followed their captain to the finish shortly thereafter, registering 5th, 6th, and 9th place finishes respectively.

Boonsboro took the crown with a total of 44 points.

1A Boys

Ty Franks of Bohemia Manor immediately commanded the lead out the blocks and never looked back.

Leading Grant Dell and Sean Snyder through the top loop of the course, Franks then extended his lead through the cornfields and the switchbacks.

Holding a twenty-second lead at the top of the Dip, he cruised across the finish line in 16:58--the only athlete to dip under 17 minutes in the race. Grant Dell (17:23)edged past Sean Snyder (17:25) to take the runner-up medal.

Every place counted for Boonsboro, who just barely snuck by Bohemia Manor in the team standings.

Boonsboro 69. Bo Manor 70.
